Weight lifting is an excellent exercise routine choice for anyone and everyone, and can help dramatically in both weight loss and body toning. Combining weight lifting with a proper diet and adequate other physical activity can show incredible improvements in just a short period of time.
What is Weight Lifting?
Weight lifting is an activity and a form of exercise that is used for developing the strength and size of skeletal muscles in the body. Weight lifting is a form of resistance training that is incredibly popular, primarily because of the fact that it can be used in so many different ways and means, and there are so many various methods that can be involved with this type of exercise.
The exercise of weight lifting involves the act of lifting and lowering the weight in a controlled and precise manner, and involves the completing of sets, which are combinations of several repetitions that are performed one after another.
Weight lifting creates muscle growth by causing microtrauma to the muscles, which means that basically it rips the muscles slightly and then when the muscles heal, they become larger than they were before. It can take obviously a relative amount of time to notice any dramatic differences, but you will immediately notice some more subtle results, such as an energy boost, as well as feeling more energized and rejuvenated throughout the day.
However no exercise routine works properly if there is not a healthy and consistent diet set in place. You should also incorporate at least one form of cardiovascular exercise into your routine, rather than just weight lifting alone, in order to have a full and proper combination of the right types of exercise.
Some of the most popular weight lifting exercises include that of: power clean, power snatch, bench press, back squats, sit ups, dead lift, shoulder press, chest press, lat pull downs, lower back extensions, tricep press, calf raise, bicep curls, leg curls, leg extension, and leg press. There are many types of exercises you can add into these, but these are simply the general exercises which will allow you to gain a balanced development, and they will also provide a strong and solid base upon which further exercise routines can be built.
The most important thing to remember here is to not overdo it, and only take on as much weight as you know you can handle. It is also a good idea to use a personal trainer or at least some form of qualified instructor if you are a beginner, and it is always a good idea to consult your physician before you begin any type of physical activity.
